“Femmephobia”
Edwardes college topper Ayan become a dancer because of “femmephobia” in Pakistan
Though we show our concerns for transgender, when it comes to practicality we behave differently. Our society’s poisonous behavior towards the transgender community has forced Ayan to become what he is today.
In Pakistani society, effeminates are living in extreme margins and are facing severe forms of social segregation. The word transgender which is socially known as “Hijra” itself is considered as a derogatory word.
The social response towards effeminates in Pakistan is also bigoted and discriminatory in general.
Dolphin Ayan has bullied persistently all his student life for being effeminate (female-like). People used to call him inappropriate names and bullied him continuously.
Ayan was a bright student and he received a degree in Civil engineering and also completed a four-month internship in Cyprus. Thought Ayan was a topper of Edwardes College, yet he could not find any reputable status in the society.
Ayan accepted himself as an effeminate after being completely rejected by society, the identity that has imposed on Ayan from his childhood. After getting disappointed with the toxic behaviors of people around he became a professional dancer like other transgender of our society and put all his degrees and education aside.
In a recent interview, Dolphin Ayan expressed that he hated being called names. Ayan also said that if people stop labeling as effeminate, he is ready to go back to his profession and will quit what he is doing today as he hates being called Hijra
“I hate being called Hijra. If only people stop calling me that, I will leave this and go back to college”, Ayan said in an interview.
”No one was ever able to remove that label from themselves. An international transgender Rimal Ali got himself operated, but was still called a ‘shemale”, Ayan further added.
People call names or label transgender for fun but how this fun destroys the life of a passionate and hardworking topper is really heart-wrenching. There are many ‘Ayans’ who suffer daily with such toxic words. Islam also prohibited us from calling names, next time when you label someone, keep that in mind it is just fun for you but it hurts someone deeply.
Your toxic masculinity has compelled him in to becoming what he is today. Please give this training to your children and younger siblings that they should never bully anyone or never use the word "Hejra" for anyone at all. We can save many lives by giving good brought up to our younger brothers and sons particularly.
